One particular incident in that work provides the insight for the introductory remark I would like to make. Hamlet's father, the King of Denmark, is no more. The prince is in deep grief and utter despair over the loss of his father. He has almost lost his mental balance; he behaves rather oddly. Surely the prince has gone mad, said many. But Polonius didn't quite agree with the rest of the folks. He said gently, but firmly, about Hamlet's queer behaviour: "Though this be madness, yet there is method in it. |
