Description
Summary:This article examines the emergence of Islamic revivalism in the Turkish context, which is unique in that Turkey, on the one hand, is a predominantly Islamic society, while on the other, it has developed a strongly secularist society. Some proponents of secularism find this emergence threatening but it is argued in this article that Islamic revivalism in Turkey has taken a particular form, one which can be compatible with Turkey’s development as a democratic society aspiring to join the European Union.
