Description
Summary:The topic of concordia discors is deepened in the essay through the discussion of the concept of Transcendent unity of religions, as argued by Frithjof Schuon who coined this expression in his homonymous text (1948), but also referring to other representatives of the so-called Integral Traditionalism or Perennialism (Guénon, Coomaraswamy, etc.). The central thesis of the essay, which will be addressed both on a level of history of ideas (referring to the theoretical and textual sources) and on a level of current affairs (thanks to the emblematic case of Islamic Sufism), can be expressed through the assumption that only by recognizing the metaphysical unity of the different religious traditions - and therefore their common basis of truth - it is possible to establish a fruitful space for an interreligious dialogue that does not become neither syncretism nor lack of real communication because of the denial of the Other.
