| Summary: | How might followers of Jesus Christ discern how to act in challenging times? One possible starting point may be to think about our action within different time perspectives. Recognising that we can see God’s call in both short- and long-term perspectives, and as both ‘timeless’ and ‘timely’, this article proposes a five-fold model of Christian action in time in which these four perspectives are integrated through a fifth, found in the experience of God and an ongoing rhythm of worship. Whilst many models of Christian action in time and history focus upon just one or two of the above, this holistic approach seeks to keep each of these time perspectives in view, allowing them to inform and counterbalance each other. The framework aims to be multi-faceted enough to reflect the complexity of our being in time, but simple enough to recall and draw upon in everyday life. |
