Trotz der breiten Rezeption in Feuilleton und Boulevardpresse hat sich die Religionswissenschaft bislang nicht für den Automaten interessiert. Dabei eröffnet eine Auseinandersetzung mit ihm fruchtbare Überlegungen zu Religion und Kunst im 21. Jahrhundert, zur Medialisierung von Religion und deren kultureller Situiertheit. Der GEBETOMAT soll hier als Gegenstand der material religion vorgestellt, aus verschiedenen heuristischen Perspektiven beschrieben und insbesondere in seinem Anspruch auf »interreligiöse Neutralität« kritisch betrachtet werden. | ||

With this, Sturm aims to illustrate the »automatic production of religious feeling«. Despite its widespread reception in the feuilleton and tabloid press, the academic study of religion has not yet taken an interest in the machine. Yet an examination of it would offer fruitful reflections on religion and art in the 21st century, specifically on the medialization of religion and its cultural situatedness. This project will present the PRAY-O-MAT as an object of material religion, described from different heuristic perspectives, and critically examined especially in its claim to »interreligious neutrality«. | ||
