Riepilogo:This article provides a historical analysis of Norwegian Pentecostal and charismatic movements and their distinct character. The paper offers an overview of social, cultural, and theological factors that have influenced its historical development, and explores how key Pentecostal protagonists have responded to this context. The analysis shows how charismatic leaders, like Thomas Ball Barratt, exercise agency, but also how movements depend on systems of institutional practices that transcend the individual. This includes the evangelistic and prophetic practices that are associated with Pentecostalism. Nevertheless, the historical analysis also shows that these need to be balanced over time by doctrinal and pastoral practices, and vice versa. Finally, it is argued that a particular kind of charismatic, entrepreneurial, and missional spirituality has given classic Norwegian Pentecostalism its most distinctive shape.
