Zusammenfassung:Since the Middle Ages, Lough Derg's Station Island (Co. Donegal, Ireland) has been known as an important pilgrimage destination: the St. Patrick's Purgatory. The waters of Lough Derg may have had a particular symbolic value in the definition of this sacred place. A comparison between the Tractatus de Purgatorio Sancti Patricii and other traditions, Irish and non, may help to retrieve the cultural background of this value. (English)
