Description
Summary:This article studies the relationship between Christianity and pagan philosophy. Many qualified studies have addressed this question with rigour and precision. Within the framework offered by these studies, this paper examines a more specific question. Specifically, it examines the role played by pagan philosophy in shaping Christian identity. All this, without forgetting the necessary reference to the Jewish heritage. To this end, the study is divided into three parts: 1) Patristic dialogue; 2) Dialogue with pagan philosophy; 3) Dialogue between faith and reason. In this way, it will be possible to conclude that Christianity, while differing from Judaism and paganism, cannot be understood without the influence of both. From this tension, the Christian identity will gradually take shape, without falling into mere syncretism.
