| Résumé: | The two protagonists of the Jacob narrative (Genesis 25-49), Jacob and Esau, and their respective families constitute the topic of the present article. Using the method of narrative exegesis of Old Testament stories, it examines the way these two figures are characterised. The focus of research is on the principal characters; a subsidiary issue is the way in which families are portrayed in the Jacob narrative. This issue is indissolubly associated with the characterisation of the two principal participants, since such portrayal gives clues about the norms and values which the narrative intends to communicate. The central thesis of this article is that the blessing which flows from Jacob's family is not directly dependant on his character or transformation. Instead, the narrative communicates that God blesses whatever the circumstances. To be a source of blessing is thus a matter of election, not of human evaluation, ability or competence. Der vorliegende Artikel beschäftigt sich mit den zwei Protagonisten der Jakobserzählung (Genesis 25-49) und ihren Familien: Esau und Jakob. Methodisch wird die Charakterisierung beider Figuren mit Hilfe der narratologischen Exegese alttestamentlicher Erzähltexte untersucht. Während die Hauptforschungsfrage auf die Protagonisten abzielt, beschäftigt sich eine Nebenfrage mit der Charakterisierung von Familien in der Jakobserzählung. Da Charakterisierungen Aufschluss über Normen und Werte geben, die durch die Erzählung vermittelt werden sollen, ist diese Frage untrennbar mit der Charakterisierung der beiden Protagonisten, aber auch anderer Figuren, verbunden. Die Hauptthese dieser Arbeit ist, dass der Segen, der von der Familie Jakobs ausgeht, nicht unmittelbar mit dem Charakter Jakobs oder seiner Veränderung zusammenhängt. Vielmehr vermittelt die Erzählung, dass Gott segnet, egal welche Umstände sich ergeben. Es geht also um die Erwählung zum Segentragen. Dieses Segentragen ist nicht mit einer menschlichen Bewertung oder mit menschlichem Können und seiner Befähigung verbunden. Les deux protagonistes du récit de Jacob (Genèse 25-49), Jacob et Ésaü, ainsi que leurs familles respectives, constituent le sujet du présent article. En utilisant la méthode de l'exégèse narrative des récits de l'Ancien Testament, il examine la manière dont les deux personnages sont caractérisés. La recherche se concentre sur les deux personnages principaux. La façon dont les familles sont décrites dans le récit de Jacob est une question secondaire. Elle est indissolublement liée à la description du caractère des deux principaux personnages, du fait que cette représentation donne des indices sur les normes et les valeurs que le récit veut communiquer. La thèse centrale de cet article est que la bénédiction de la famille de Jacob ne dépend pas directement de son caractère ou de sa transformation. Le récit démontre que Dieu bénit, quelles que soient les circonstances. La source de la bénédiction relève donc de l'élection, laquelle ne dépend ni de l'évaluation ni de l'aptitude ni de la compétence humaine. |
