Description
Summary:One of the most important problems of systematic theology in our days is the question how to combine the philosophical foundation of Christian belief in the incarnation and the uniqueness of Christ on the one hand, with the appreciation of the equal value of Jewish belief on the other hand. The author tries to give a philosophical foundation of orthodox christology which fulfills the following four demands: 1. appreciation of Israel as the chosen people. 2. renunciation of the Christian understanding of Christ as surpassing qualitatively or even eliminating the Torah. 3. giving the possibility of a positive interpretation of the Jewish objection to Christ. 4. insight in the double contingency of any foundation or legitimation of belief. The proposai of the author to fulflll these demands in his foundation of christology is based on the insight in the identity of the regulative and grammatical role of Christ and the Torah in Christian and Jewish language-games in the perspective of Christian belief.
