Résumé:The article traces back the history of modern Arabic drama taking the 1952 Egyptian revolution as its landmark. With it a theatrical revival took place that spread from Egypt to the other Arab countries. It can be characterised by an increased political and national concern. The article introduces the most outstanding modern Arab dramatists shortly examining their works - among those are: Nu'man 'Asur, Lutfi al-Huli, Yusuf Idris, Mahmud Diyab, Sa'dallah Wannus, 'Isam Mahfuz, Samih al-Qasim, Yusuf al-'Ani, 'Izz-ad-Din al-Madani and at-Taiyib as-Siddiqi.
