Summary:The pertinence of the designation of the Greek and Roman religions as "classical" - understood as model or exemplary in the same way as other facets of both cultures - is examined in this paper. For that purpose, with no claim to exhaustivity, references an allusions in the contemporay popular record, the treatment of the issue in the scientific literature, and, in a broad historical perspective, some milestones of special relevance regarding the moral, political and philosophical assessment of both religions have been taken in account.
