Description
Summary:Meister Eckhart does not seem to have been included in the protrated mediaeval discussions about how to interpret the power of God (potentia Dei). Is this however an evidence of Eckhart’s pantheism, as many of his contemporaries assumed his teaching was? This seems, however, highly questionable at the very least. One way – the one here chosen – to find out just how questionable it is, might be to look into careers and work of two of Eckhart’s heirs and followers, especially in regard to the ineffable nature of God, Giordano Bruno (1548-1600) and John of the Cross (1542-1591), who were respectively burnt on the stake and canonized and proclaimed «Doctor of the Church».
