| Summary: | With the Synod on Synodality (2021-2024), the Catholic Church has embarked on becoming a more synodal Church to strengthen its missionary task. In its first steps, the focus lies on being a listening Church. The call for being a synodal Church is not merely another important step in the reception of Vatican II. In particular, the disastrous handling of allegations of sexual abuse in the Church has revealed how much a systemic change in exercising leadership is necessary: there is strong call for holding leaders accountable. After tracing the call for accountability, the study investigates whether synodality implies accountability and if the call for accountability stipulates a Church that is synodal in mentality and operations. The Church understood as communio provides the theological basis for the reflections. The study concludes that synodality implies accountability, and accountability requires a synodal Church. Avec le Synode sur la Synodalité (2021-2024), l’Église catholique s’est engagée à devenir une Église plus synodale pour renforcer sa tâche missionnaire. Dans ses premiers pas, l’accent est mis sur le fait d’être une Église d’écoute. L’appel à devenir une Église synodale n’est pas seulement une autre étape importante dans la réception de Vatican II. En particulier, la gestion désastreuse des allégations d’abus sexuels dans l’Église a révélé à quel point un changement systémique dans l’exercice du leadership est nécessaire: il y a un appel retentissant pour exiger des comptes aux dirigeants. Après avoir retracé l’appel à la redevabilité, l’étude cherche à savoir si la synodalité implique la redevabilité et si l’appel à la redevabilité stipule une Église qui est synodale dans sa mentalité et son fonctionnement. L’Église comprise comme communio fournit la base théologique des réflexions. L’étude conclut que la synodalité implique la redevabilité, et que la redevabilité exige une Église synodale. |
