Summary:Following the death of a Superior General, the Interim Superior General took office in accord with the institute’s constitutions. The Superior General’s death occurred slightly more than a year prior to the next scheduled general chapter. According to the constitutions, a chapter of elections was to take place to elect a new Superior General if the vacancy in the office occurred more than a year prior to a scheduled general chapter. The Interim Superior General notified the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life sent prayerful condolences on the death of the Superior General and, considering the aging members and the institute’s discernment about future canonical governance, approved the request within three days.
