The poverty of some people is an ethical challenge, precisely because it calls into question our concept of a common vulnerability.Poverty and vulnerability differ in their relationship to violence, knowledge, and commitment, so that poverty appears more as a multiplier of vulnerability. Nevertheless, poverty and vulnerability can be distinguished from the perspective of the covenant, as presented in the Exodus narrative: while poverty appears as the opposite of the covenant, vulnerability is revealed as a disposition towards the covenant. La (grande) pauvreté serait-elle une simple déclinaison de la vulnérabilité ? Les deux méritent en réalité d’être soigneusement distinguées. La pauvreté de certains constitue une provocation éthique, justement parce qu’elle interroge notre conception d’une vulnérabilité commune à tous.Pauvreté et vulnérabilité diffèrent dans leur rapport à la violence, au savoir et à l’engagement, de sorte que la pauvreté apparaît plutôt comme un multiplicateur de vulnérabilité. Cependant, pauvreté et vulnérabilité peuvent être articulées dans la perspective de l’alliance, telle que le récit de l’Exode la présente : si la pauvreté y apparaît comme l’inverse de l’alliance, la vulnérabilité se dévoile comme une disposition à l’alliance. |
