| Summary: | The aim of this study is to analyse the conflict that occurred from 1460 to 1482 between the archbishop and cathedral chapter of Toledo and the Order of Calatrava around the tithes of Campo de Calatrava. A great quantity of unedited documents from the Archivo Histórico Nacional allowed us to examine the mechanisms articulated by the Order and Gonzalo de Pisa and Alonso and Diego Gutiérrez de la Caballería, tax farmers for the Master and the Order of Calatrava, in order to benefit from the tithes belonging to the Church of Toledo. The sentences of excommunication and interdict that were launched against them for fraud and violence opened the way to the development of successive contractual processes that tried to put an end to the conflict. These processes have also been studied. El objetivo del presente estudio es analizar el conflicto que se produjo entre 1460 y 1482 entre el arzobispo y cabildo catedralicio de Toledo y la Orden de Calatrava en torno a los diezmos del Campo de Calatrava. Una abundante documentación inédita procedente del Archivo Histórico Nacional nos permitirá examinar los mecanismos articulados por la Orden y Gonzalo de Pisa y Alonso y Diego Gutiérrez de la Caballería, arrendadores de las rentas del maestre y Orden de Calatrava, a fin de beneficiarse de los diezmos correspondientes a la Iglesia de Toledo. Las penas de excomunión y entredicho que fueron lanzadas contra aquellos por sus fraudes y violencias abrieron paso al desarrollo de sucesivos procesos pactuales con los que se trató de poner fin al conflicto. Estos también han sido objeto de estudio en el artículo. |
